La’Toyur Tisdale is an entrepreneur, writer, poet and community advocate. She is the CEO and founder of YUR, co- founder of the Community Take Back Initiative, co-founder of Women of Empowerment Tennessee State University chapter of NACWC and author of the “Pieces of Me For You: A Collection of Poems”.

In the spring of 1994, La’Toyur Tisdale entered Tennessee State University. She became involved in several organizations that would help develop her community activism and leadership skills.  While at Tennessee State University, she served as Public Relations and President of Phi Gamma Nu, professional business fraternity; Secretary and colligate representative in the Association for Information Technology Professionals; and co founder, charter member and treasurer of Women of Empowerment Frankie J Pierce Chapter of NACW, Inc.   Through these organizations, La’Toyur learned to follow as a member, lead as an officer and serve in her organization as well as the community. 

In 2005 in collaboration with friends LaTamera Woodley and XanShunta Polk, La’Toyur Tisdale launched the online magazine YUR. Through YUR magazine La’Toyur has had the opportunity of interviewing several local and nationally known artists as such as Def Jam poet Tasha Jones; playwright, director, actor Shawn Whitsell; actress Sherene Whitfield; and co-founder of HBO’s Def Poetry Jam Bruce George. In 2008, Ms. Tisdale through her relationship with many of her interviewed artist through YUR Magazine had a vision to celebrate literary through education and performance workshops from which the “Poetic Pen” was birthed.  The successful artist development workshop entitled: A Critique on Performance and Written Poetry had participating local, regional and national poets, singers and actors in attendance.  Also in 2009, YUR Magazine was nominated for the Southern Entertainment Awards “Online Magazine of the Year” as well as the Soulfood Poetry Café` “Trailblazer of the Year” award.  To walk in her desire for community activism and support, in December 2007 -2009 LaToyur and the YUR Magazine staff hosted “YUR Very Special Christmas”, an event providing holiday eatery and gifts for patients and their families at the American Cancer Society Memorial Hope Lodge.  February 2009 &, 2010 LaToyur in conjunction with several local Nashville artists hosted “Love YUR Self”, an event offering patients a night of inspiring poetry, testimonies and performances at the American Cancer Society Memorial Hope Lodge.   In February 2010 Ms. Tisdale co-founded the Community Take Back Initiative, a community organization dedicated to building support networks and opportunities to supporting youth.  Through the Community Take Back Initiative LaToyur serves as one of the organizers of the Real Talk Real Teens spring action summit and the Real Talk Real Teens fall dialogue.  In March 2011, La’Toyur Tisdale released a collection of poetry entitle “Pieces of Me For You: A collection of Poetry” through Feel Me Inc. publishing company.
